Forums are what we envision to be the best way people will connect and share about travel. Since it is vital to our vision, it makes sense to start out early with a classic forum. I imagine the forums will be a busy place, and so it should have it’s own special corner on our website.
I wanted to get something up and running quickly to see how a forum would look on the site, so I used the wordpress plugin “bbPress”. Adding this plugin was easy, and creating the first few forums was a piece of cake. I’m not sure at this point if we will stick with bbPress in the long run, but for getting a proof of concept up and running, it sure was easy.
Adding login and lost-password pages were easy. I followed this link to get the pages so people can sign up and start posting.
I followed the steps outlined on this page to limit the login widget from being displayed on non-forum pages on our site.
This is a quick start to the forums. The next steps will be to fill out some categories, add some media, and stimulate some conversation.
Cheers!
